Tivvy is my home town - born and grew up here. Attended Tiverton Grammar School, worked at Goodlands front office and J.H. and Co prior to enlisting in the RAF. I am proud of the fact that my family have lived in and been associated with Tiverton since the early 1700's when my ancestor Tristram was the Rector of Pitt parish taking services at St Peters, St Georges, and Cove churches. His stone can be seen on the front wall of St Georges church. I enjoy coming 'HOME' whenever my business allows which sadly is not often enough. Although there have been many changes in the Town - I still get the same warm feeling inside when I see that Tiverton sign coming off the link road from junction 27. I was the commercial manager and entertainments chairman of Tiverton Town Football Club for several years and still follow their progress when reading the ''Gazette'' sent to me by my family who all reside in the town.
I can never say that I do not like Tiverton - but I have to confess that I do not like what they have done to the town which was once an Aladdin's cave of small privately owned shops. Fore Street, Bampton Street and Gold Street hosted a bustling market town centre - I guess that they all had to give way to the ubiquitous and totally garish Supermarkets - price of progress unfortunately. Also the woods and fields where my friends and I played as children are now concrete jungles ... again the price of progress.
