WITH what seems to be an unprecedented week in British Politics, people in Tiverton have had their say on what they think about it all on social networking sites like Facebook.

Some people are glad that Gordon Brown has finally left Downing Street.

Gaynor Gooding writes: “People have short memories; they forget the mess Labour made of this country since they have been in power. David Cameron is better than the man we had before.”

Sarah Thelwell added: “This very coalition - it's what I voted for - hopefully the Libs will moderate the Tories and do some great things in their own right - and down with New Labour - couldn't be better!”

Sarah Westwood joked: “To use New Labour’s favourite phrase - 'things can only get better!'”

However, some are angry with the Liberal Democrats and others look back to the 1980s with bad memories.

Sarah Perris writes: “Nick Clegg has sold out all of us tactical voters who were voting to get rid of a Tory

Mike Gooding added: “Yay! Someone who knows about the economy is to be replaced by a slick, rich, posh PR puppet! Huzzah! Higher taxes for the poor! Bloodsports to be spiffingly legal once again! Yah!”

Jane Tiley commented on how we could see a return to the 1980s :  “15% interest rates, millions of people unemployed, no investment in the health service or schools, 3 day week, elderly people afraid to put their heating on - did I have a nightmare about that or was that what happened when the Conservatives were in power?”

And Georgina Whiting praised outgoing PM Gordon Brown : “Tony Blair was a complete turnip, but Gordon Brown really started to put this country back together during and after the recession,  which was a world wide recession and nothing to do with our government. If it wasn’t for Gordon Brown doing the work behind the scenes the recession would have been far worse for England.”

Some people are more concerned about how popular culture may turn out in the Tory years ahead.

Steve Lodge writes: “When Thatcher was in power Musical Youth got to number 1. Let's see what happens. It could be for the better.”

And Jo Summerbell was worried that the BBC’s coverage of the PM resigning could interrupt the schedules: “I think it'd better not run over Eastenders!”

Well, looks like the first result for Tiverton will be no new High School as the ConDems claw back more money to hand out to Bankers and their other rich mates - what will be next?
