The eagle has landed in Bickleigh, as the Man on the Moon Maze opens to the public on July 18.

This year's 10 acre maize maze commemorates the 40th Anniversary of the first moon landing. Budding austronauts can act out their own space mission and pretend to be Armstong, Collins and Aldrin.

The maze design depicts an eagle, the national bird of the United States, landing on the moon, an astronaut and space rocket.

Jonathan Lee from the Bickleigh Maize Maze said: "Hopefully it's going to be bigger and better than ever before - and not as muddy as last year."

"Instead of wandering around looking for brass rubbings, they'll also be a crossword and word search to help people find their way around."

Katie Lee is once again the designer of the maze. In the past she has designed mazes including the 2008 James Bond maze, and the Brunel Maze in 2006. The maze is also celebrating its tenth year of helping people get lost in Devon, after their first maze in 2000 displayed the Bickleigh Mill logo.

Jonathan added: "A lot of hard work goes into getting the maze all mapped out on the field, but how we do it, is being kept a top secret.

"We all got together as a family to discuss ideas of what we wanted to do this year, and something which my sister Katie could design, and this year we decided to have the Moon landings."

The Moon maze opens on July 18, for the next seven weeks from 10am-5.30pm. Entrance is £4 but the under 5s get in free. The organisers also advise you take wellies when wet, and in the case of torrential downpours, phone ahead to check if it's open to avoid disapointment.

always wanted to be an astronaut. That isnt going to happen and a ticket on Virgin Galactic seems unlikely too... but then this weekend...
