SO who will get the chance to lead our great constituency of Tiverton & Honiton into the new decade? That's for you to decide on May 6th, but to get a clearer idea of what will happen here in the town, we have our very own election poll.

Is this safe seat more precarious than people think? Is there a surprise on the cards? Will it be a one horse race? This is what our poll aims to find out!

They say that social networking sites and the online world will have it's own part to play in this year's election - so make sure if you're campaigning to get your views written here.

If you're a voter, who will you be voting for a why? Not voting? Bored of the election? This is your community website - and this is a great opportunity for you to let us know what's on your mind - and maybe sway others!

Lib Dems are taking the national centre stage this time around, Trotboy. Hopefully that popularity will continue and spread to our constituency too. We can't have a Tory goverment and I think staying a Tory constituency is a bad move! As UKIP, well they may lead this poll but I can't see them winning!

@Underwood: You didn't exactly answer my question, you did the famous political side step. If your going to have any chance of winning this election then you need to be more up front, this is why Clegg did so well at the debate last week, he was to the point and 95% of the time hit the nail on the head.

Personally, I'm not particularly bothered by TESCO, they sell me what I need and I'm happy with that. But I don't want to buy my clothes from there (I have in the past but it's not exactly cutting edge), we already have DP's and New Look on the high street, why can't we encourage shops like H&M to follow suit? The rent is too high, that's why! I can't understand why they haven't gone down, some shops have been empty for over two years, how is that making any money at all!?

Well, you see this is where the Lib Dems are full of it as usual. What, exactly, did the Lib Dems on MDDC do to stop TESCO moving out of the Town Centre, or to stop the TESCO in Crediton? Nothing, is the answer.

As to whether the Lib Dems can win in Tiverton, the Tory majority is 11,051, not 9,000, the closest the Lib Dems came to winning in Tiverton was in 1997 when a massive swing against the Tories led to a majority of only 1653 for the Tories, the likelihood of a swing that size against the Tories this time is very slim. That said, it's far better to hold your nose and vote Lib Dem than vote Labour. The Labour Vote has always been a core of approx 7000 votes, add those to the Lib Dems and they would get closer, and would have won in 1997. It's still only 2/3 of the current majority though.

I've been a longstanding campaigner against supermarket monopolies, which are one of the main causes of High Street shops going out of business. We need to be a lot tougher with them, both on the way they treat their suppliers and the tactics they use to control the grocery markets.

We also need to make sure our economy doesn't get any worse with some sensible long term policies otherwise overall retail volumes will fall anyway.

    Question for Mr Underwood.

While this is my first year as an eligable voter, I have been a Lib Dem supporter for a number of years even though I'm in a Labour majorty family. But my main grumble about the way things are currently run is how we have sooo many shops empty! This is probably a Tory thing, empty shops is obviously better in their eyes than lowering the preciously pricey rental fees. So the question is, if in power, is there any chance that we'll see these prices lowered!?

If not, I'm sad to say, we won't have a town to live in ten years time! Or alteast, not one with any shops other than TESCO!

hj - of course there is a chance. In fact if recent opinion polls are proven correct then I almost certainly would win. Of course that only works if people come out and vote for me

The recent canvassing I have done has been extraordinary and we are running out of posters so many people want them.
