I was involved with amateur dramatics many years ago and I  have been watching the last five years of Tiverton Junior Operatics shows. Not always liking what I saw. BUT this years is nothing like amateur. A slick professional show that should not be missed!

If you haven't got a ticket then you will  miss a treat as it's sold out. There were people after seeing it early in the week have snapped up the last of the tickets after watching this masterpiece of Direction, Acting and Singing.

Yes an opera is not everyone cup of tea but you cannot resist getting embroiled in the total atmosphere of this show, so much so that hankies were available on the way out.

How can you pick out stars? but I will try.

Daryl Cargill is totally mesmerising as Jean Valjean he throws himself into the part and his exceptional voice has developed over the years and he is a credit to Tiverton.

Daniel Taylor in his last year with the Juniors before going to University to study performing arts is totally believable as Javert in another powerful performance.

These two boys are already established stars of the company but was great to see was the development of the rising stars. JamesFrance as Marius portrays his romantic role with Cosette [Julia Graham-Hill] with growing confidence and will be one to watch. As is Matt Watts, who played Gavroche to a tee.

Matt Browning is sleazy as the Inn keeper Thenardier; as is new to the company Tariro Mwadrira; as his wife.

Michelle Viney is totally convincing as the Inn Keepers daughter Eponine.

The big number of the last year 'I dreamed a dream' was fantastically sung by Joanne Atkins[Fantine].

These performances along with a great chorus numbers made this a smash hit!!

These are just a few of the highlights of the great performances of a very talented cast. But all deserve great applause. A years worth of rehearsals under the guidance of MD Andrew Curtis has paid off.

Although a very dark show it sends shivers down your spine on many

occassions. So much so that the audience gave the first three nights

standing ovations.

Bravo!!!!!

Great to see such a good review by Garytay. Well done Tivvy. Junior Operatic  !!

You may be interested to know, that about the same time, my daughter Nancy, an ex Tiverton High School girl, has just directed  'Les Miserable'; this in a large theatre in Auckland, New Zealand . She is at the same time very well know for her portrayal of 'Shirley Valentine'.
The play has just the one actress and very very funny and better then the film.
She has taken this play to most of the city's in  NZ.
    Again well done Junior Operatic.
