Devon Council say Pinnex Moor Pothole Complaints "unfair and unfounded"

DEVON County Council’s head of road maintenance has said
-
Cold conditions take its toll on Pinnex Moor Road.
that complaints about the condition of Pinnex Moor Road are “unfair and
undounded.”
The council has hit back and campaigners have been told their
road is a priority, and that resurfacing has been is planned.
The Council's Cabinet Member in charge of Devon's road maintenance, Cllr Stuart
Hughes blames the previous Liberal Democrat council which the Tories ousted
last year: "After years of neglect from the previous Liberal Democrat
administration at County Hall, which left the road in its current condition, the new Conservative
administration has made sure that funding is made available. Resurfacing of the
road is already in our planned programme of work, along with other roads in t he
town, and will begin within the next few weeks.
"Criticising the Council for not prioritising the road is unfair and
unfounded."
He added: “Roads don't det eriorate into bad condition
overnight. This is yet another legacy of the last administration. Since then
local Conservative County Councillor, Polly Colthorpe, has made it her business
to make sure that funding is secured for
this road. Further funding will still be needed, but for now work to r epair
and resurface the worst sections of the road will begin in earnest.”
Tthe Council has allocated over £285,800 in Tiverton for
repairs to highways and footways of which £59,000 is being spent in Pinnex Moor
Road.
Since January, the Council has filled almost 40,000 potholes across Devon, which
the Council say is roughly six to seven times more than would usually be
expected. Millions of pounds of damage to Devon's 8,000 miles of roads, which
is the big gest highway network of any local authority in the country, has been
caused after the coldest winter for 30 years.
Gangs of highways repairmen are working
across Devon full time, repairing potholes on the main routes into settlements, following completion
of emergency repairs on the main A and B road network which carry 80% of traffic in the
county.
Rapid response teams are repairing small
and medium size potholes, to make the highway as safe as possible. Defects over one square metre
requiring a more permanent repair will be dealt with by other properly equipped teams.
The Council is asking the public to be
their eyes and ears on the highway network. Potholes and safety defects on the county’s roads can be

ReportI think we had all better get used to the idea of all public services deteriorating significantly whichever party comes to power after the election. We are talking about 20% cuts in public expenditure. We've never had that before. Complaining about poor road services will appear to be relative luxury when reality strikes us all!!!

ReportThey should take a look at Canal Hill sometime soon. It's a disgrace. It was only recently resurfaced in full but now large areas are breaking up and the top dressing is being worn away and dumped on the pavements.
