sights and sounds of the Uffculme Sheep Show.
Crowds were entertained from 10am until 4pm on Monday 2 May with acts
including the George Formby Society, Taiko Drummers and the Honiton Majorettes.
The annual event was organised by the Exe Valley Rotary Club. Club
president Charles Denman said: "It has thankfully remained dry which will
encourage more people to come today.
"There is an awful lot of organisation involved. All the guys from the
Rotary Club have been involved plus some others as well and we are grateful for
their help and support.
"The club is also helping to raise funds for charities such as Shelter
Box, Hospiscare, Children's Hospiscare South West, Marie Curie and other local
charities as well as helping overseas."
The show on Monday 2 May which is organised by the Exe Valley Rotary Club was
opened at 10am by Tiverton & Honiton MP Neil Parish.
Mr Parish said: "It's great, and I've been able to go around all the
stalls and have been able to pick up a jigsaw puzzle for our little
granddaughter.
"The people who organise this are unsung heroes, and it is really nice to
come and open the show and do something that's non-political in amongst the
current election campaign."
In the main ring there was entertainment throughout the day including a
falconry display, Honiton Majorettes and Victor Pitts' Dog & Duck display.
Victor Pitts said: "The people have been very welcoming, and the children
have been very enthusiastic when we've invited them into the ring to take part.
"The kids love the dogs and ducks running around and it's a very popular
event. The dogs enjoy doing too."
At the other end of the field classic cars were showcased including several
old tractors. Bernard Rowe brought his Ferguson Brown to the showy. He said: "This
is the best tractor I have and it is the shiniest too.
"It has taken me about six months to get it to its current condition. It's
been taken abroad and in bits during the winter months and each bit has been
restored, painted, and worn bits have been replaced."
The winner of the sheep show this year was Anne Rickson from Sunnyside Farm
in Honiton. She brought along a three year old Grey face Dartmoor called
Hadrian which was given the 1st place rosette by the judges.
Anne said: "I'm very pleased. It's the first show of the season so it gives
us time to get these prepared and see what they can do.
"A lot of effort goes into rearing sheep. If you look at his coat there is
quite a lot of it that needs to be looked after and there is a sheep in there
although you can't really see it.
"Hadrian is happy as long as he has his nuts and hay, but tonight I think I'll
treat myself to some Chinese to celebrate."
