Alworths has 70% off stock in it's final days of trading

ALWORTHS is now in its final days of trading and offering up to 70% off on stock in a bid to shift it.

Empty shelves in Alworths.

Waving goodbye to Alworths.
It's believed that executive staff at the store noticed problems with stock starting at the beginning of the year and rumours floated around Tiverton of its demise in February.
Despite the store's demise we believe that the Tiverton store was one of the chain's most successful and has taken in stock from other shops which have already closed.
Half of the shop has been emptied and the popular pick and mix has not been in store for several weeks.
The closure will leave a gaping hole on Fore Street after the closure of Waterstones last month.
This has left other businesses at the end of town noticing less trade. One told me: "There isn't really much of a reason to head down this far anymore as everything is at the other end of town.
"People park at the other end of town in Tesco, and there isn't much for them to come to past Phoenix Lane."
More details on the closure of the store to follow in the coming days....

This is sad, I predicted that the focus of the Town would shift to Gold Street when Tesco opened, the Council could have seen that a mile away, and should have made sure that they got a good wedge of cash from Tesco to adjust the balance. If they had followed the suggestion of the Angel project and pumped regeneration money into that area of Town building an Arts Centre, Park, Cafe & River walk then people would have had a reason to travel to that end of Town. But the morons we have on the Council have as much forsight as an arthritic mole.

ReportI guess the KFC brigade will be out in force again. Every time something closes in Tiverton these days they all pipe up.
