PETROC Tiverton’s Head of Sport - Shaun Parkin - joined fellow former Royal Marines, a host of sporting heroes and his son Joe, an England Colleges player, in a major charity rugby match earlier this month.
-
Joe, Sir Ian McGeechan OBE and Shaun.
The pair played for Lions legend Sir Ian McGeechan OBE’s Invitation XV and, alongside the likes of former England internationals Dave Sims, Graham Dawe and Kev Dunn and Scotland and British Lions player Damian Cronin in beating the Royal Marines 32 – 19 in the Chara Bowl in Plymouth.
Shaun - who lives in Exmouth said: “It was a massive occasion and an honour to play in the match which raised over £5,000 for the Royal Marines and Royal Navy charities in gate receipts alone,” , who lives in Exmouth.
“To play with such legends was very special for my son and I.
“We obviously made an impression as we have already been invited back next year.
“With 40 Commando currently deployed in Sangin Province in Afghanistan it is important that we support the servicemen, servicewomen and their families as much as we can.
“Sports students at Petroc will continue to raise funds to support the injured and their families when they return in September, through a range of sponsored events and we hope the local community will support us in doing so as they have in the past.
