THE teenager killed in a car accident is expected to be named this week as a former Tiverton High School student who was reported missing on Friday morning.
Lukus Lyons left his Bampton home at 6.30am but failed to arrive at work.
Social media sites were awash with missing person appeals for the Bampton teenager.
Then at 4.50pm police were called to the scene of an accident on the A396, just south of Cove and near Bickleigh Wood.
A vehicle was discovered at the bottom of a steep bank and its only occupant pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased man has been named locally as 19-year-old Lukus.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called to the scene of a single vehicle road traffic collision.
"One vehicle, appears to have left the road and dropped approximately 40 feet down a steep bank into trees.
"The single male occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing and next of kin are being advised."
A spokesman said this morning that formal identification would be likely to take place tomorrow or Tuesday.
It is understood Lukus usually drove his silver Clio van to work, often along the A396 from Bampton, past East Anstey and onto the A361 North Devon Link Road at South Molton.
His cousin, Holly Ford, took to Twitter to appeal for help in finding her missing relative.
At 8.27pm on Friday night she posted: "My cousin Luke Lyons is currently missing. Last seen in Bampton at 6.30am. Please ring D&C Police if any1 sees a silver clio van in the area."
On Saturday she posted: "Can't sleep. Brain has gone into overdrive. Trying to work out how this world can be so cruel. #impossible."
Tributes have been paid to Lukus on the social networking site Facebook.
Friends are organising a memorial midnight drive to Exmouth on Saturday in tribute to Lukus.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to phone non-emergency number 101, quoting log number 515 25/01/13.
