We frequently hear and read positive reports of Schools in Tiverton and the local catchment environs. These schools stand upright upholding Christian Values and avidly collect the newspaper cuttings to display on news boards and web-pages.
The proliferation of these noble well intentioned news features helps hide a bleak future for those parents and children struggling to get a fair break when seeking help and support for those with special educational needs.
Swamped by Blue Sky Visions, Mission Statements promising support that cannot in any real practical terms be delivered. The words inclusion, equality, empathy pasted in the School Shop Window as a dressing to appease the box tickers club, but has nothing available inside. Except perhaps inadequate funding, resources, training regimes and good old fashioned prejudice.
Why so many promises of equality of opportunity when parents, grandparents and children alike struggle to get some simple basic support in our schools?
