Hi. New to this site and not actually living in Tiverton yet but thinking seriously of moving there. I know the area quite well but I was wondering what peoples' honest opinion was of living there is?
Any areas to avoid? We live in a quiet town now so not worried about amazing night life!
I work as a self-employed gardener; do you think there would be work around the area?
Any thoughts welcome. Thanks.

Hinn Skarfr writes on Facebook: "Its the same as any small rural town, depending on what you want out of life & where you live will make a difference.
We have engineering firms here, but the High School is an arts & farts school, so there is a shortfall there. Other local C...ompanies don't seem that interested in investing in the School leavers but employ Eastern Europeans instead & therefore there is some resentment. You are OK if you like to go shopping in charity shops & drink endless cups of coffee, only 2 - 3 Pubs worth going to & the night life is pretty poor, but like I said it depends on wht you like. We have a thriving theatre & lots of other social events if that's what you enjoy.
Only thing to do is to come & stay awhile & see if Tivvy fits you !"

While you are down it would be a good idea if you popped into Tiverton Museum that would show you what Tiverton life was in the past and how we value the history of Tiverton. If you come before the 17th August you will a see an exhibition of what Tiverton High Street was like and what it's like now. A visit to the Tourist Information Bureau may also be helpful. They are both near the Bus Station in Pheonix Lane.

If you are mainly concerned about where to live then a helpful pointer is that living to the south of the town will involve a steep hill and a main road crossing every time you go shopping.
Living to the north of town has new estates with easy accesss to the town, plus a great many bungalows favoured by older people which is likely to provide you with plenty of gardening work.

Tiverton has a lot going for it - library, swimming pool, gym, cinema, football/rugby/cricket clubs, museum, Knighthayes Court, Grand Western Canal, old railway walk and lots of other walks, indoor and outdoor bowling greens, further education college, lots of groups with a range wide of interests, majorettes, singing, theatre, dance groups in a beautiful part of Mid Devon with easy access to north and south devon coasts - what more could anyone want??
