COUNCILLOR Kevin Wilson has been suspended for one month and will be forced to undergo comprehensive ethical standards training.
-
Former Mayor of Tiverton Cllr Kevin Wilson.
The suspension came into act on the June 28 after a Sub-Committee of Mid Devon District Council's Standards Committee found Cllr Wilson was not complying with the Members' Code of Conduct of the MDDC.
The committee found that Cllr Wilson was claiming £16.99 per month from the council for use of broadband from May to December 2008.
The Sub Committee found that the allowance was claimed for an address where Cllr Wilson used to live but when he left this address in May 2008, he did not have access to any broadband service that was provided there.
The contract for the provision of broadband at this property was in the name of another person. He used the allowance he received to pay for the broadband service at this former address. He eventually obtained a broadband service in his own name sometime in 2009.
The Sub-Committee found that Cllr Wilson was not allowed to claim for broadband in these circumstances.
