Common questions regarding refuse collection from Mid Devon District
By Lewis_Clarke | Monday, December 20, 2010, 13:54
Will the refuse and recycling crews be collecting my bins today?
No, all collections have been suspended.
What happens if my bin / recycling box is missed due to snow and ice?
Our
current advice is that, if we have been unable to collect your bin, or
recycling box, on your normal collection day, please leave them out and
we will get back to collect them as soon as it's safe to do so. If this
advice changes, we will update our advice on the website.
When are you returning to collect bins that are missed?
Unfortunately
we can not give you a specific day or time. However we are constantly
monitoring the conditions and will try our best to collect as soon as it
is safe to do so.
How do I get the latest updates about my collections?
Our
customer services team have all the latest up to date information and
can be contacted on 01884 255255. We aim to update this page regularly
as the situation could change rapidly.
I can drive my vehicle off my property and down my road so why can't you collect my bin?
Most
minor and estate roads will not have been treated with grit or salt.
Whilst this may not cause too many difficulties for cars, our refuse and
recycling collection vehicles typically weigh around 26 tonnes and are
far less manoeuvrable. Where road surfaces are particularly slippery,
such a heavy vehicle can easily lose control, putting the public, our
staff and property at risk. Where our drivers consider the road surface
to be hazardous they will not attempt to access the road. These roads
will be recorded so we know which areas to return to when conditions
improve.
My normal refuse has been collected but not my recycling, why is this?
In
periods of snow and ice, it may be more difficult to collect recycling
from black boxes because we sort the materials at the kerbside and we
must consider the health and safety implications for our drivers and
loaders.
