The National Trust are helping to preserve some of England's amazing landscapes and wildlife. Across Wiltshire, the National Trust is working hard to keep Wiltshire green and free. I hope to see their hard work continuing into 2012.

Designed by William Burges, Knightshayes is a rare and captivating gothic revival wonder, surrounded by acres of glorious parkland and Mid Devon countryside. The house was completed in 1874 for the grandson of John Heathcoat, a talented pioneer in the production of lace, who, in 1816, brought much growth to the impoverished town of Tiverton through the development of a successful factory. The estate remained in the family for three generations, before being handed to the National Trust in 1972.
Rich in eccentric decoration, the house has many incredible rooms to explore. Encounter the splendour of the medieval Great Hall and feed your imagination with exquisite wooden carvings, sculpted corbels, dramatic period furniture and hand painted ceilings. Our exhibition enables a great insight into the fascinating life of Joyce Wethered, described by Basil Ashton Tinkler as 'one of the greatest golfers, man or woman, of all time' and last member of the family to have resided at Knightshayes. Along with daily search activities for children, we offer regular guided tours and have an exciting year ahead with plans to restore the property's kitchens, an unseen feature of the house.
However, an enjoyable experience at Knightshayes does not solely rest with our spectacular house. Senses are brought to life in the woodland garden, a delightful hidden gem. Our magnificent formal garden, enhanced by colourful borders, elaborate topiary and rare shrubs and trees, is recognized as one of the finest in Devon. The vast parkland offers excellent walks and the children's play area is a source of endless fun. Delicious refreshments can be found at the Stables Café, supplied with fresh organic produce from our very own walled kitchen garden, or picnics can be enjoyed on stunning grounds. Furthermore, from craft activities to outdoor plays, we hold several exciting events throughout the year. There is something for everyone.
