Use old line for cycleway

SO PM David Cameron wants to get more of us out on our push bikes and is pledging millions to set up new cycle routes throughout the country. May I suggest that Devon County Council or whoever controls the purse strings for such projects considers setting up a route between Tiverton and Exeter?
I believe that such a route is long overdue and a necessity when you consider the number of cyclists who use the A396 road, busy at the best of times and hardly conducive to safety and cyclists and motorists attempting to pass them.
The route of the old Exe Valley railway would surely make a good national cycle path as much of the former trackbed is unused. I appreciate that some farmers who bought up sections of the old line may not be enthusiastic, but I am sure a compromise could be struck.
There would have to be detours because the station buildings at Up Exe, Thorverton and Brampford Speke are private residences, but the beauty of using the path of the old line is that it is flat and would not be too arduous for novice cyclists or commuters who would be more likely to cycle to and from work in Tiverton or Exeter than take the car; especially in the summer. As it used to be from the train carriage window many years ago, the scenery would also be a bonus.
