Tiverton High School skiing trip to France.
On Friday 9th December at 2.15pm a group of 16 year 10 and 11 students left THS and accompanied Cullompton Community College to the slopes of Montgenevre in France.
We travelled by coach via the Channel Tunnel and arrived at our hotel earlier than expected. The hotel overlooked the slopes and the scenery was breath taking.
We were very lucky that we had the slopes almost to ourselves, which was great for us beginners! We were to have 6 hours of tuition each day.
Day 1 we met our instructors and the lessons began. This was going to show if the practice sessions at Exeter Ski Slopes helped!! We were put into groups according to our ability.
Day 2 and more lessons. The slopes were starting to get bigger as our confidence grew.
Day 3 and we were on the chair lifts going even further up the slopes. The chair lifts are not as easy as they first appeared as I almost found out when only managing to sit half on! This qualified me for the "Disaster of the Day Award" which meant that I had the pleasure of wearing a silly hat the following day.
I was not however the only student from Tiverton to win this award, Rachael Sweetland kept me company!! The slopes continued to get bigger and the stopping got harder – those concerned know who they are!!!
That evening we travelled to a wonderful hot spa – just what the muscles needed.
Day 4 and everyone was now on the much bigger slopes. The skiing was much more challenging and everyone kept falling over but always with a smile and laughing. Wednesday evening, there was a disco.
A Weymouth School were also staying at the hotel and THS and Cully decided to join force and challenge them to a dance-off…
On Thursday, the last day, we had one last session with our instructors before saying our goodbyes, packing up and heading home arriving in Tiverton on Friday morning.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience which I will always remember and one that I would recommend to any student who is thinking of going but not sure.
We left Tiverton as two schools - THS and Cullompton Community College - but by the time we returned it felt like one party who had known each other a lot longer.
The Cullompton teachers, Miss White and Mr Oxborough were such a laugh and treated us like their own students as did Mr Hodgson and Lee with theirs. I wish I had gone last year also!
