Whether you're in your 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's or older..... I think it's fair to say that we all love to look our best!

Here is a guide to help you make the very best of your hair.....Whatever your age!

In your 20's....

Lucky you!  Your hair is in its absolute prime being at its thickest and with lots of elasticity.

You may tend to be more adventurous, experimenting with both cuts and colour, some choices can be quite bold but at this age you can generally get away with it!  That said, if you experiment with home colouring kits, the results can be disastrous....As you may well know!  In addition, they can cause considerable damage to your hair.  If you wear your hair long it's essential you keep it in 'tip top' condition, that involves not just using good quality products such as a hydrating shampoo but also ensuring you get plenty of vitamins and minerals from having a well balanced diet.

Stylish 'celebs' in their 20's include: Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole, Pixie Lott, Megan Fox, Scarlett Johasson, Emma Watson, Jessica Ennis, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford, Lily Cooper Nee Allen, Amy Childs and Jesy Nelson.

In your 30's....

If you've had a baby, a few months after the birth and when you stop breastfeeding, your may find your hair becomes thinner especially around the hairline.  Unless this becomes excessive, it's perfectly normal and is caused by a change in your bodies hormone levels,  however a well balanced diet will really help your hair to return to its natural glory.  Eat foods high in iron, if you're not a vegetarian red meat/liver is a great source as are wholegrains and spinach.  You could also benefit from a daily multi mineral / multi vitamin.  For thinning hair you may find Nioxin shampoo beneficial, available online at priced at around £30.

With regards to style, it's a shame that many women at this age feel pressured into wearing their hair in a more conservative way, my view is that these days pretty much anything goes and as long as you love your hair and feel confident, then go for it!

Stylish 'celebs' in their 30's include: Beyonce, Nicole Richie, Kim Kardashian, Kate Middleton, Paris Hilton, Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba, Nicole Scherzinger, Kelly Brook and Victoria Beckham.

In your 40's....

Those 'pesky' greys!...

You may have some grey hairs appearing or have been battling with them for some time?! To deal with this, if you're considering having your hair coloured, 'camouflage' is the best option.

As a general 'rule of thumb', it takes approximately ten years to go from 10% to 70% white and for a flattering result your colour should be adapted over time.

Stylish 'celebs' in their 40's include: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Halle Berry, Salma Hayek, Kristin Scott Thomas, Juliette Binoche, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Lopez, Meg Ryan, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Kylie Minogue.

In your 50's....

The menopause......Due to a decrease in oestrogen and an increase in androgens (male hormones), your hair may tend to thin, go dull, limp and become either very dry or more oily. Because of this you may feel you need to adapt your style to make your hair look thicker and healthier but this doesn't mean you have to wear your hair short if you don't feel it's for you, the right cut, whatever length you choose to wear your hair, cut will make a huge difference!

Stylish 'celebs' in their 50's include: Nicollette Sheridan, Madonna, Christie Brinkley, Sheena Easton, Lorraine Kelly, Melanie Griffith, Sharon Stone, Belinda Carlisle, Paula Abdul and Kim Cattrall.

In your 60's....

At this time you may notice a significant change to your face shape.  To continue looking your absolute best, your style needs to be adapted to take these changes into account.  Changing your style and/or colour seasonally can give you a wonderful morale boost and keep you looking great and feeling confident!  Use of the right products is essential to ensure your hair looks its absolute best.  For thinning hair, Nioxin shampoo has for many proved beneficial although pricey at around £30, available online at www.nioxin.comSoya protein supplements could also help and as always, a well balanced diet is essential.

Stylish 'celebs' in their 60's include: Helen Mirren, Anna Wintour, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, Meryl Streep, Glen Close, Debbie Harry, Sigourney Weaver, Mia Farrow, Joanna Lumley and Olivia Newton-John.

In your 70's and onwards...

Remember that your hair should still reflect your inner personality, in this day and age, with regards to style, pretty much anything goes and so you don't have to resign yourself to a style that you think matches your age!  As long as your hair is cut well and into a flattering shape that suits your face shape and enhances your best features you can continue to look fantastic, fresh and vibrant!...

When it comes to colour, you may like your hair to be grey but remember you can choose what shade of grey to be!  When choosing a colour it's important to bear in mind that as you've grown older, your skin tone has changed.   You may for instance have had black or red hair in your youth, but that is no longer going to be flattering...A gentle colour with the right tones for you, could take years off you.

If you have any areas where your hair is particularly thin, a great tip is to use an eyeshadow in a shade as close as possible to your hair colour, apply this in affected areas using the applicator supplied.

Stylish 'celebs' in their 70's and over include: Raquel Welch, Judi Dench, Julie Andrews, Shirley MacLaine, Julie Christie, Jane Fonda, Barbara Streisand, Vanessa Redgrave, Sophia Loren, Faye Dunaway and Angela Lansbury.

Spring is on its way so if YOU feel it's time for a fabulous new look!  Please contact me by phone, email or text to arrange your appointment or book a 'no cost' full hair consultation during which time we can talk through various cut and colour options to make you look and feel great!

Take care....
