Rising pop star Adam Isaac, star of Sir Tom Jones's The Voice, is to switch on Tiverton's Christmas Lights in a programme that is packed with stage performances, parades and events for all the family throughout the town.
The Voice's Adam Isaac will switch on Tiverton's Christmas Lights
Adam will switch on the lights in the culmination of five hours of festive fun and he will follow up with a performance on the stage in Phoenix Lane, the centre of all the action.
Securing the singer was a big coup for the town said Cllr Sue Griggs, chairman of Tiverton Town Council's Christmas lights committee.
"He's clearly a big draw at the moment. He is doing the lights switch on for both Torquay and Exeter. It will be a fantastic event for our town and lots of fun."
Adam, coached by Sir Tom in the BBC show, made it as far as the quarter finals. He has built up a strong following in the South West in recent years and after his success on The Voice he released his debut album 'Train Tracks' last month.
Dancers, pop bands, a schools lantern parade and a hog roast are just some of the attractions lined up for the lights switch on programme.
The day's events begin at 2pm with a session of Christmas carols led by Tiverton Operatic Society followed by on-stage performances from local singer Ria Lizzie, a theatrical presentation from the Willow Tree Project and a set from Blundell's School Soul Band.
Exeter pop group The Boys from Melbourne Street, and two local bands, Cross Border and Stay Lucky will also feature on stage during the afternoon and early evening as will Exe Valley Voices choir. Destination Dance Troupe will also be putting on a performance at around 5:50 in Fore Street
In the build up to the lights switch on, 13 local schools will join together for a lantern parade through the town beginning at 5.00 pm followed by a parade from the North Devon Pipes & Drums starting at 6:00 pm from the market car park.Adam Isaac will be on stage shortly before 7pm for the switch on followed by a performance from the singer.
There are plenty of other activities including a hog roast in Phoenix Lane at 6pm, mulled wine provided by the Rotary Club, hot chestnuts, candy floss and a number of activities up in the market area including a performance from Blundells Junior school choir.
"The lights committee has been working hard all year to make this a memorable event for the town and the support for organising the lights switch on event has been tremendous," said Cllr Griggs. "It has been funded entirely by money donated by businesses and traders. No taxpayers money has been used." We have had so much support from our local businesses this year it is really super, it promises to be a spectacular event. Earlier in the year funds were also raised through a charity auction.
"It promises to be a tremendous time and we just want to see the town have a lovely day," she added. "Most of the shops and market stalls will be staying open late. It's going to be a wonderful start to Christmas celebrations in Tiverton."
The Christmas lights this year are all new and we very much hope that they will be enjoyed by everyone. Tiverton Town Council Christmas lights committee deliberated long and hard to decide on the designs for the towns lights.
A specially designed leaflet giving details of the Lights Switch on as well as numerous other events being staged in and around the town in the build up to Christmas will be distributed to homes copies will be available at various outlets in the town.
