Rickshaws and pop-up exhibition to boost Tiverton's town centre trade

Four schemes to boost Tiverton town centre by attracting new businesses and more shoppers have been awarded a total of £57,500 as part of the High Street Innovation Fund (HSIF), supported by Mid Devon District Council.
Three Rickshaws will provide a 'hop on, hop off' service to take shoppers anywhere in the town. Users will be invited to make a donation. The £15,000 scheme was put forward by acTiv Tiverton, a project that supports young people. An empty shop in Tiverton will also be used for a 'pop up' exhibition by Tiverton Museum to promote the museum and other tourist attractions in the town. This project was awarded £2,500. The Tiverton Town Team will receive £20,000 for equipment to measure the footfall in Tiverton and provide analysis for future planning. The Tiverton Trade Association will be given £20,000 to help set up a loan scheme to help small businesses.
The above funds have been awarded provided the projects are match-funded by private initiatives. Further projects are still being discussed and the Council will be working on these with the organisations who submitted them so further announcements will be made at a later date.
Some of the projects will be up and running before the end of the year whilst others will be in the next six months.
Councillor Richard Chesterton, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Regeneration said "We've taken a new pro-active and creative attitude to improving our town centres. These organisations have all come up with different ideas and we have been able to work enthusiastically together to come to our final decisions. There is still more work to do but these are exciting projects that will benefit organisations, businesses and communities."
Three other schemes will also benefit from funding. Bampton Business Group was awarded £1,950 for more signage to promote Bampton's shops and facilities. Cullompton Town Council will received £17,000 towards improving the Street Market at the Bullring in Cullompton. Crediton Chamber of Commerce won £11,690 for a number of different initiatives including a marketing campaign, specialist fairs, a Christmas Fair and a magazine to promote shops and businesses, as well as car park signage advertising five hours parking for £1.
