Honiton win game of 19 wickets for only 99 runs

THERE was an extraordinary game at Honiton, where 19 wickets fell for a combined total of just 99 runs.
Leaders Filleigh arrived at Mountbatten Park having lost just twice this season, but they were skittled for a meagre 48, with Phil Tansley claiming eight wickets for six runs.
That was not the end of the story as Honiton proceeded to lose all but one of their wickets in the run chase, sealing a win on 51 for nine, with George Meadows' offering of 12 the highest individual batting score of the game.
Kentisbeare moved up to third after they were nine-run winners in a thriller at home to Babbacombe.
Andrew Chave followed up his seven for 34 in the first meeting against the South Devon side this term with five for 66 to bowl the visitors out for 148 after he had hit 22 in the Kents' offering of 157.
Harry Howe (29) and Chris Gillett (28) were the other Kentisbeare batsmen to get runs as Paul Bates took four for 37.
Chave's five-wicket haul and Pat Hobson's three for 32 finished the job to keep the Kents' promotion hopes alive.
Tiverton & Bickleigh eased their relegation worries with a 99-run win at Woodbury.
Ben Scofield (48) and Richard Pugsley (24) led the Mid Devon side to 172 for nine.
Kevin Miller claimed five for 13 for Woodbury, who were then bowled out for just 73, with only Jimmy Jones (23) making much of an impression with the bat. Russell Hilton took four for 25 for Tiverton.
Kenn were in all sorts of bother at 60 for eight at Kilmington when Pete Chisley (22) and teenager Casey Clay (44) added 80 for the ninth wicket, which led them to a respectable 140.
Ben Noble (4-23) and skipper Maurice Beviss (4-27) claimed the first eight wickets to fall and it was only when they left the attack that the Kenn fightback began.
Hal Cook claimed the other two wickets to fall for the hosts, who closed out a six-wicket win in comfort. Dave Cooper hit 40 and Tom Gooding an unbeaten 34 .
Skipper Beviss said: "We bowled very well and also held our catches. The all-round support fielding was very good.
"But we should have got them out for a lot less than 140, given they were 60 for eight, but it ended up a highly satisfying all-round effort by the side."
Upottery began the day in second spot but they hit weather problems at Uplyme & Lyme Regis, ending the day sitting fourth and 11 points off the promotion places.
Upottery batted first and had 63 for three from 17 overs when the rain arrived. And the visitors were dismayed to learn that, after a three-hour delay, their time was up.
That left the home side with 29 overs to score 64 to win – something they did for the loss of just four wickets.
Uplyme banked 15 points to Upottery's two to keep Ashley Caddy's side in the title chase.
