Western Canal, last Sunday by completing a litter pick. The Army Cadet
detachment teamed up with Mid Devon District Council's 'Big Litter Pick' scheme
to clean up the local beauty spot.
Tiverton cadets wanted to get involved with a
litter pick after Mid Devon District Council visited their detachment in March,
and talked to them about the problems litter causes. The Army Cadets were keen
to get stuck in and show their support.
15 Army Cadets from the detachment
managed to collect 6 bags of rubbish at the litter pick in just 3
hours. The sacks of litter were collected by Mid Devon District Council and
disposed of, and they also provided the cadets with the litter picking sticks,
fluorescent jackets and refuse sacks.
Mark Baker, the Canal Manager said "A big thank you
to all the Cadets and leaders who took part in this litter pick along the Canal
on Sunday. Your help in working to keep this beautiful canal free of
litter is very much appreciated and we wish the detachment all the best in its
future activities."
Tiverton Army Cadet Detachment meet at the Cadet
Centre in King Street, at 7pm every Monday and Wednesday night. The detachment
recruits anyone aged 12 – 18. Anyone interested in joining Devon Army Cadet
