IN COURT: Cases which have been dealt with by Central Devon Magistrates' Court

Robert Thomas, 29, of Mount Pleasant Road, Exeter, pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman during an incident in the city on December 3, 2011. He received a 12-month conditional discharge and there was no order for costs due to his limited means.
Estella Doherty, 34, of Eton Walk, Exeter, has been fined after failing to ensure that two of her children were regularly attending Westexe Technology College. The charges related to a 13-year-old and an 11-year-old and the offences occurred between June 6 and October 13 2011. She had initially pleaded not guilty but changed this on the day of her trial when charges relating to two other children were dismissed. She was fined £70 with a victim surcharge of £15.
Sensea-Melina Robinson, 19, of St David's Hill, Exeter, has pleaded guilty to using abusive, threatening or insulting words and behaviour likely to cause another harassment, alarm or distress during an incident on January 19. She was fined £100 with a £15 surcharge but was detained in the courthouse for a short period in lieu. There was no order for costs due to her limited means.
Adrian Stokes, 64, of High Street, Exmouth, drove a tractor in Broadway, Exeter, without due care and attention on March 4, 2011. He had denied the charge but was found to be guilty of the offence. He was fined £200, must pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £100. Six penalty points were added to his licence and two charges relating to causing damage to other vehicles and failing to report the matter, which he had also denied, were dismissed.
Jon Jefferson, 21, of Ashley Court, Chawleigh, failed to comply with the terms of a curfew issued as part of a suspended sentence order. The order was made more onerous with the addition of a supervision requirement for 12 months. There was no order for costs.
David Whitfield, 57, of Admiral Vernon Court, Exeter, drove a car without any insurance during an incident in the city on June 30, 2011. He was fined £150, must pay a £15 victim surcharge and costs of £85. He faced no separate penalty for failing to produce his licence while required to do so.
Colin Bird, 41, of Willow Walk, Honiton, had an offence of speeding on the B3181 at Westclyst proven in his absence. He was fined £175, must pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85. His licence was endorsed with three points.
A mother from Honiton who cannot be identified for legal reasons, received a six-month conditional discharge for failing to ensure her nine-year-old was attending school between September 1, 2011, and November 25, 2011. There was no order for costs.
Steven Shorter, 42, of Clarence Road, Exeter, was fined £100 after having an offence of speeding on the A377 Cowley Bridge Road on July 9, 2011, proven in his absence, He must also pay a victim surcharge of £15 and had five points added to his licence. There was no order for costs.
Liam Bruce, 19, of Seymour Terrace, Tiverton, failed to attend appointments which he was required to as part of a supervision order. He admitted it and was fined £85 with a victim surcharge of £15.
A husband and wife from Uffculme received 12-month conditional discharges for failing to ensure their teenage child was regularly attending school. They cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Michael Beer, 62, of Glebe Close, Lympstone, failed to give information about who had been driving a vehicle registered to him which had been involved in an offence. The matter, relating to an incident on June 26, 2011, was proven in his absence. He was fined £100, must pay a victim surcharge of £15 and had six points added to his licence. There was no order for costs.
Toby Bowditch, 25, of Philip Road, Exeter, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in the city's High Street on January 22. He was detained in the courthouse for a short period in lieu of a £50 fine and there was no order for costs.
Adam Gaigasari, 52, who gave a postal address in Cathedral Yard, Exeter, admitted assaulting a man by beating him during an incident on January 21, The offence saw him breach a conditional discharge for an offence of common assault. He received an 18-month conditional discharge and there was no order for costs. No action was taken regarding the breach.
Emily Ridgeman, 29, of Hazel Road, Exeter, had a case in which it was alleged that she assisted in the disposal of perfume taken from Debenhams discontinued. She had denied the charge.
Craig Welling, 45, of no fixed abode in Budleigh Salterton, pleaded guilty to stealing eight cans of lager worth £6.95 from Spar in the town on January 22. He also stole four cans of Stella Artois worth £8. He was fined £50 but was detained in the courthouse in lieu of this.
Michael Feirtear, 29, of Brooklands Road, Exmouth, admitted breaching some of the unpaid work requirements of his community order which had been issued last February for a drink-driving offence and taking a car without lawful authority. The order was revoked and he received a conditional discharge for 12 months and must pay £50 costs.
Richard Prout, 49, of Merrivale Road, Exeter, drove a van in Collaton Crescent in the city on January 6 when the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 41 mcg in 100ml, exceeding the prescribed limit. He pleaded guilty and was fined £100. He will also have to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for a year. This can be reduced by three months if he successfully completes a driving course.
Luke Shergold, 26, of Butts Road, Exeter, damaged a window without lawful excuse causing up to £700 of damage at the Crew2 hairdressing salon. The incident happened on New Year's Eve 2011 and Shergold pleaded guilty. He is now subject to a community order which will see him have to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work over the next year. He will also have to pay £250 in compensation.
Gerrard Agyemang, 20, now living in Surrey, pleaded guilty to obstructing a constable during the execution of his duty in Exeter on January 5. He was fined £100, must pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85.
Simon Durrant, 21, of Merrymeet, Whitestone, admitted driving in Okehampton Road, Exeter, on January 9 when the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 126mcg in 100ml, exceeding the prescribed limit. He was made subject of a community order which will see him have to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work. He was also banned from driving for 30 months which can be reduced by 30 weeks if he completes a driving course at a cost of £150.
Christopher Haggar, 21, of Fairview, Newton St Cyres, used threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour during an incident on January 8 in Exeter. He pleaded guilty and was fined £75 with a victim surcharge of £15. The incident put him in breach of a conditional discharge but no action was taken in respect of this.
Gary Yeo and Jonathan Yeo, 44 and 40, of Mildmay Close, Exwick, and Guinness Lane, Exeter, were jointly charged with stealing 12 cans of lager from Spar in Magdalen Road on January 9. They pleaded guilty and Gary Yeo received a six-month conditional discharge with no order for costs. Jonathan Yeo received a 12-month conditional discharge with no order for costs.
Damien Brown, 20, of King William Street, Exeter, has received a suspended prison term after breaching the terms of a community order. The order had been issued on April 19, 2011, and Brown failed to attend appointments with a supervising officer on several occasions. Brown was given the order for interfering with a car with the intention of stealing it in Crediton as well as entering a property in the town and stealing car keys, a lighter and cigarette papers. He was committed to prison for 12 weeks suspended for a year. Brown was given an additional supervision order which will see him have to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work over the next year.
Brett Evans, 40, of Cheshire Road, Exmouth, failed to attend unpaid work as he has been directed as part of a community order on several dates in December 2011. He admitted the offence. The order had been issued in relation to failing to disclose information that would affect his entitlement to benefit as well as driving a car while disqualified. The order was revoked and Evans is now subject to a curfew order for four weeks which will be monitored electronically.
Robert Walton, 22, of Longbrook Terrace, Exeter, has had a suspended sentence order issued for racially aggravated assault made more onerous by having six months extended supervision added to it after he failed to attend appointments with a supervising officer.
