Bridwell Park plays host to NSPCC's traditional country fair

BRIDWELL Park hosted its traditional fair this weekend to help raise funds for the NSPCC.

The grounds of the country estate which is currently being sold by Lord Mountbatten welcomed hundreds to the annual fair on Sunday 4 September.

Good weather conditions and a variety of entertainment from the main ring, live music, archery and classic car displays mean organisers are hoping plenty of money will have been raised.

John Palmer of the organising committee said: “There’s a lot of organisation involved, but all the volunteers have our own jobs to do so it goes smoothly.

“We’re hoping that we can get access to this site again next year, but I believe the house is on the market.

“If we can’t come back here I’m sure we’ll find an equally nice venue.”

NSPCC volunteer Becky Little added: “We couldn’t have asked for better weather and there is a fantastic atmosphere and crowd supporting the charity.

“I’ve enjoyed seeing the girls dancing around on their ponies and the dancers in the main ring.”

Joining the ponies and dancing in the main ring were the Tiverton Amateur Operatics Society who performed their Midsummer Night’s Dream for one final time.

Director Graham Sessions said: “Over the last six weeks we have performed in around five locations around the region.

“It was a challenge to do something different for the Dramatics Society so it’s the first time we’ve ever done Shakespeare.”

The classic car show had plenty of vehicles for petrol heads to look at. Norman Greenslade brought his 1913 Rover along.

He said: “Being the age that it is, not many people can remember cars like this, but I like it, and I like driving around in it.

“This is a very nice country fair with lots for everyone, especially with the weather being so kind to us.”
